Villagers tell stories of the ancient spirits that guard and protect the mystical river.  They speak about the volcano, with a fiery power that brings so much life to this thriving forest.  For as long as anyone can remember, local people have come to this wonderful place to enjoy the warmth of the river’s waters, to relax and reconnect with Mother Nature… to bond with family and friends.  Regular visitors know every bend in the river, every eddy, every secret cove where the water flows a little warmer… a little more comforting. The river is said to have restorative properties, capable of relieving aches and pains… and soothing weary souls.

For years, the locals kept this treasure to themselves.  However, in recent times, word of the river’s magic has spread, attracting adventurers and explorers from all corners of the world, who, seduced by stories of its beauty and healing powers, have come in search of the hot springs.

The township closest to the thermal river is called La Fortuna, which translates to the fortune.  And so, the river remains a place of wonder for the Fortuna locals, who have experienced the wonder for generations, and now, also to the fortunate voyagers that have come from afar, coaxed by tales, new and old.  And as the sun sets over the jungle’s dense canopy, there is a sense of peace and harmony that settles over this mystical place.  It is a sense that assures all present that the flattering tales of magical waters were nothing short of truth, as far as words can convey.

With a deep commitment to sustainability and respect for nature, simple structures were erected in harmony with the rainforest surrounding the river blending perfectly with the surrounding environment. Its purpose was to allow conscious-minded visitors a chance to experience the beauty of the setting safely and comfortably — to deeply feel the soothing effects of the waters.  Our presence and minimal intervention must always honor the river’s magic.  We must continue to respect the power of this volcanic land and to be inspired as very fortunate visitors.
